I mainly use FileLocator Pro with the Index Search interface for searching large document archives.
One thing I miss compared with Windows Search is a “best match” or “relevance” sorting option.
At the moment, Index Search can find matching files, but the most relevant result is not always shown at the top. For example, when searching for an exact phrase or a likely document title, FileLocator Pro may show a newer modified file above the file whose filename or document title contains the exact phrase.
I understand that I can use prefixes such as:
name:"example phrase"
or manually sort by Name, Modified, Hits, etc.
But what I would like is an additional sorting option in Index Search, for example:
Relevance / Best match
Ideally this ranking could prioritize results like this:
- Exact phrase match in filename
- Exact phrase match in document title/metadata
- Exact phrase match in document content
- Words near each other
- Loose word matches
- Modified date only as a secondary tie-breaker
This would make Index Search more useful when searching for documents by likely title or phrase, because the expected document would appear at the top without having to manually change the query or column sorting.
Is something like this already possible in FileLocator Pro, or could it be considered as a future feature?
