I just got bitten by my GDIProcessHandleQuota. As far as I can see, the GDI Handle count increases each time a new item in the results list gets selected, if the contents view is also visible. Maybe this is something worth being fixed.

I'm using Win7 64 with "Release Build 828 - 2014.11.21.59552 (x64)"

You can see the Handle count increasing up to 9999 (my current GDIProcessHandleQuota setting) in ProcessExplorer as well as in the regular TaskManager (the list has to be large enough). For my latest verification, I did a search for *.h, containing text "define". This gives me a huge list. Then I scrolled through the list with the arrow keys, the "Hits" tab in the contents view was selected and visible. The Handle count increased each time a new item got selected.

Edit: I had a quick look on Windows 10 now (fresh install, not an upgrade) -> Same problem. So this is not caused by a third party extension.

EDIT: Thanks for reporting the issue. I can confirm that when scrolling through a large list of files there is the possibility of an increased GDI handle usage. It clears itself if you cause a full-repaint of the hits tab (such as re-sizing the window or flipping between tabs) but it is a bug.

It'll be fixed in the next release.

More information: It's specifically a Font GDI issue. A specific text font is being unnecessarily cached and then re-created.
