I got some odd results when I sorted a search result list.

If I sort the Modified date in ascending order, I see some entries that look like folders, but have an odd file extension. What is a ")" file extension?

Their dates are out of order, but I thought it was because folders are always at the top of the list. But if I sort it in descending order, those entries go to the end of the list.

Can someone explain this to me?

If you sort ascending on the Modified column all Folders, as you say, will appear first before any files. If you sort Descending, however, folders will be sorted AFTER files.

The 'File Extension' column will look at the item name and show anything after the last period, and will do that for all items including folders. So a folder named "Acrobat 9.0" would show a value of '0' in the File Extension column.
